Problem Definition

Limited mobility has a significant effect on the quality of life and is associated with higher rates of depression, social isolation, anxiety, and obesity. Considering the importance of this issue, different types of mobility aids, such as walkers, rollators, or wheelchairs, have been developed to help people become as independent as possible for doing daily activities.

Standard walkers are stable and provide the most support to a user, but they are often cumbersome. Walkers, even those with front wheels, must be lifted to move and if you want to turn, you need to hold it up. Lifting the walker makes the user less stable and can be difficult for long trips and so require the user to have some upper body strength.
Rollators or Rolling walkers are equipped with wheels and do not need to be lifted with each step but using them can be difficult when walking downhill and uphill.
In fact, Rollators are less stable than a standard walker and for elderly individuals, this can lead to accidental slips and falls. In order to reduce the risk, they are designed with hand brakes, but for a user who has not enough grip strength, this is not an efficient solution.
Another big problem of conventional walkers or Rollators is their style and appearance. Users do not wish to be seen as medical patients and in many cases, they use walkers or rollators reluctantly.

Design Solution

While using conventional walking aids requires holding and pushing the device, Infinity walk-chair is developed to carry the user.
The product is designed for people who are not as much disabled to use a wheelchair but have difficulty walking for long distances even by using walking aids. Infinity walk-chair gives them the choice to use the product as an electric rollator or wheelchair and encourages them to walk and be active as long as possible. This option would lead them to improve their abilities and their social life.

The product is equipped with two low-speed electric hub motors with electromagnetic brakes. The wheels are locked by these brakes and just roll with electric power, not the user push or gravity force. This special design, ease normal walking speed without the need for pushing the rollator or bearing its weight and eliminate the risk of accidental slips.
Smart and Convenient Operation by Simple Touch
More Safety, Less Powerful Gripping

The Infinity rollator is operated by a simple touch sensor on the right handgrip that resolves the need for hand brakes and powerful gripping. To activate the electric motors and start walking, the user just needs to touch the sensor and hold the handgrip. If the user releases the touch button, the walker stop moving immediately.
In order to move in the reverse direction, another button is embedded on the right handgrip which makes the rollator move backward in half speed. Turning right or left also can be done naturally and just by changing steps direction.
Alternative Mode of Use

As it is implied, the Infinity rollator is designed to be a multifunctional product. For the users who can't walk long distances, the product is equipped with a foldable seat that converts the rollator to the motorized wheelchair. By unfolding the seat, the product operation mode will be changed and touch buttons on the right handgrip became deactivated. In this case, the wheelchair’s movement can be controlled by a simple joystick mounted on the left handgrip.
